Target audience is a group of people, target consumers of your product/service, who have certain parameters and characteristics: age, gender, marital status, religion, geographic location, language, education, financial level, etc.

And the avatar (portrait) of the target audience of your business is a detailed compiled Google Spreadsheet, Google Sheets or an intelligent map of the target audience, for example, in the Xmind service, which fully describes all the characteristics and interests of your customers or potential customers.

The TA avatar makes it possible to understand which marketing tools to use in promoting a business on the Internet, which ones can give a good return at the beginning of the project start, and which ones will attract customers in the future and you can not put the main emphasis on them.

You will be able to work out the pains of your potential customers in more detail and hit them through advertising campaigns, warm up customers, make them more loyal to your business brand, increase trust in your brand, etc.

Launching and promoting a business on the Internet without a detailed analysis and study of the avatar of the target audience is the same as shooting sparrows with your eyes closed😁.
